insurance companies are similar to us (consumers) when buying a car. first, we offer the lowest price we are willing to pay for the car. if the seller accects the offer then, done deal. but if the seller is stubborn, they will refuse the offer and bargain until they can agree on a fair price. in other words, you have options. you can meet their offer, refuse their offer or you can buy back the car plus some cash and do as you please. you have a right to refuse their offer and ask then to reappraise your car. adjusters are not mechanics or have too much knownledge on cars. they assest all the damages to the car then make an appraisale based on the parts, body work, labor, paint and maybe location (of the vechile). only from what they can see. and most of the time esp in in compact engine bay like the z once you get in to fixing it there are more stuff to fix that you didnt see before. then if that value is greater than a certain percent, a total loss is issued. in my option, refuse their offer and gather all the receipts you have done to the car, from upgrades, repairs to even maintainance. and fax if over to your adjuster and see what they can do. even if you are planning on keeping the car, they might offer you more money along with the car.
